Comic Book Style Design

Designing a comic-book style inspired e-Learning demo has been on my project playground to-do list for a long time. I even put together a Pinterest board to collect some of the images and ideas I have come across – you can take a peek at this here.

I have seen some great examples of full-on courses from other designers, including Cathy Moore’s Connect with Haji Kamal which you can view and read about in Tom Kuhlmann’s post here, Broken Co-Worker which you can view and read about here, and some great examples designed and developed by Linda Lorenzetti which you can read about and take a look at here.

Inspired by the e-Learning Heroes weekly challenge #156 Popular Stock Photo Styles and Effects in e-Learning, I’ve spent some time working with some stock images to create comic-style images – a good starting point, I feel.

These were created using a combination of Photoshop, Pixlr and Picasa – yes, no PowerPoint this time!

You can find more inspiration for comic book graphics from sites such as Freepix by searching for comic book

I hope I have inspired you to try this technique to create your own unique comic-style inspired e-Learning using stock images.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to comment on this post Olivia. I’ve just left my computer for a 6 week holiday, but I’d be happy to share more information about how I did this (which is my most favourite way to spend my time lately) when I get back. If you haven’t used Picasa I totally recommend you start with this tool as it’s super easy to work with to achieve amazing results very quickly with any image.
